FRX Polymers Earns Spot on 2019 Global Cleantech 100 List of Top Companies in Sustainable Innovation

Mar 4, 2019

CHELMSFORD, Mass., February 28, 2019 - FRX Polymers® Inc., the global leader in polymeric halogen-free flame retardant solutions, has been named to the 2019 Global Cleantech 100 List which recognizes the world’s leaders in sustainable innovation. The company, which earned the distinction for the sixth time in the last 10 years, was recognized for its successful commercial work for its breakthrough Nofia® flame retardant products. Cleantech Group released the 10th Global Cleantech 100 report on January 28 at its annual Cleantech Forum in San Francisco.

FRX Polymers has consistently made the Global Cleantech 100 List and also received the additional distinction of being named to the “Lust List” in 2014, which is comprised of the top three companies from the Global Cleantech 100 who received the most peer validations from the expert panel without any negative cases.

“We’re honored again to be included on this distinguished list of leading global technology innovators,” said Marc Lebel, President and CEO of FRX Polymers. “This recognition is an acknowledgment that our totally new sustainable solutions are taking hold and exciting the broad end-use markets that we serve.”

To qualify for the Global Cleantech 100, companies must be independent, for-profit, and not listed on any major stock exchange. This year, 13,900 companies from 93 countries were nominated. Nominees were weighted and scored to create a short list of 308 companies reviewed by a global 87-member expert panel comprised of leading investors and executives from a wide-range of industrial corporations active in technology and innovation scouting.

From transportation and logistics to agriculture, energy, food, chemicals and resources, the report covers six sectors and provides analyses of the themes and trends shaping the market and corporate investment, according to Cleantech Group.

FRX Polymers is the developer and producer of a new, environmentally friendly family of inherently flame retardant plastics and oligomers, trade named Nofia®. The company is currently in the high growth phase of commercializing its unique family of polyphosphonate homopolymers, copolymers, and oligomers. These non-halogen flame retardants are tough and transparent, and possess high melt flow for use in consumer electronics, textiles, building and construction, and transportation markets. Nofia phosphonates replace halogenated flame retardants, which are being phased out due to toxicity concerns. They are being sold as polymeric flame retardant additives, flame retardant engineering plastics, and as reactive flame retardant additives for thermosetting resins.

Nofia phosphonates are produced using sustainable green chemistry principles such as a solvent-free production process, no waste by-products, and near 100% atom efficiency. FRX Polymers’ portfolio includes an extensive and growing patent estate. To date, the company has nearly 200 patent applications, of which more than 100 applications have been granted. The company has been the recipient of numerous awards, including the EPA’s Environmental Merit Award, the Belgium Business Award for the Environment, and the Flanders Investment of the Year Award. Along with inclusion on the Global Cleantech 100 list, FRX Polymers has been a three-time Frost and Sullivan Award winner for Innovation and Customer Value Leadership.
